Once or twice a year, Bonhams & Butterfields holds an auction of antique arms and armor in San Francisco. We'll meet at the auction house and wander through the preview (the auction's on the following Monday, November 15th.) You never know what will be available, but it's fun, nevertheless. A few years ago, there was a row of tables 50 feet long and a half dozen display cases filled with swords from the Bronze Age through the 19th century. And you got to pick most of them up to examine them. There was even a Viking sword; it was barely more than a rusted strip of steel, but it WAS a Viking sword. The following year, a collection of John Wayne memorabilia was featured. We'll find a place nearby to have lunch. More later ...
