KVMR Celtic Festival
The Vikings of Bjornstad were invited to the KVMR Celtic Festival in Grass Valley, California over the 2-4 May, 2025 weekend. The focus was on Celtic music, but there were plenty of artists' and artisans' booths. And historical reenactors. The site of the festival was in the tall timber of Northern California and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to spend a few days.

The Vikings of Bjornstad's displays are set up on Saturday morning waiting for the public gates to open.

Even our banner got appreciative comments.

We just need a longship...

Our display included our treasure hoard, a 10th century map and a lot of jewelry.

Viking games and an array of figures from the Norse myths.

Amber, coins, a signal horn, a drinking horn and some Viking weaponry.

A late Viking helmet, a mail shirt, spear points, the Viking chess game called Hnefatafl and models of Norse gods.

The audience couldn't help dancing to the music.

We haven't seen the attendance figures, but there were a LOT of people at the festival.

Will's gear rack showed off some of our weaponry and furs.

Our guests can't pass up a little VIking dress-up.

Rick and Denise testing out the gear.

Denise and Sandra are enjoying the day.

A Roman legion was encamped nearby. Ave Romanus!

Legionnaires on the march.

There was a lot to watch and listen to.

Lots of food booths.

The dancing was contagious.

Will provides some historical information.

Music is always better with instruments.

Celts got around.

Silvermane the Magician, a compatriot for a couple of decades.

The camera on my phone decided Silvermane needed a little photo manipulation. I wasn't consulted.

Our neighbors for the weekend.

They provided music and dance.

We couldn't have asked for better musical backdrop for the weekend.

Denise's 12th century Isle of Lewis chess set gets a workout.

Rick sets up his Kubb game and has plenty of players.

Kubb rules aren't as difficult - or as simple - as they seem.

A great afternoon for the game. And Denise is the one who calls checkmate!

The award for true grit in the full sun goes to...

It isn't called full plate for nothing.

Two days of Celtic culture.

And all good things come to an end.

Peaceful calm under the trees.
